How To Train Your Puppy To Potty Outside

There are some secrets to potty training, but the truth is, results are dependent on you! Here's the facts about puppy potty training:

Puppies are like human babies, whenever they need to go potty they go potty! So the first thing you have to do is get them outside before they potty inside. That is your job! If you fail to do this, then the blame is on you.

The best way to get your puppy to understand where to poop and pee is to show them where to potty. The most effective way to do this is to take them out when they need to potty and praise them when they go. It is amazing how fast they will learn when you give them their favorite treat for pooping in the proper place. Think of it in this way, if their favorite treat is a small piece of cheese, then after just a few times of going in the right place, your little puppy will start looking for a treat as if to say " I pooped in the right place, now where's my cheese!"

When your puppy is only about 8 weeks old it has a very small bladder and can only hold their urine for about 30 minutes. This means you must be consistent!

When puppies eat they will often need to go potty after just a minute or so, that means you've got to take her out immediately. You will also need to take her outside as soon as she wakes up, because their bowels will start to move and don't forget to take her out last thing at night. If your puppy doesn't go when you take her out, be aware that she will probably need to go very soon.

Use a phrase that everyone in your home knows such as “go potty.” So when your puppy starts to pee or poop and she will begin to know what that phrase means.

Some people have been told to rub the puppy's nose in the poop if they go inside. Don't do this! That's cruel and it doesn't teach your puppy where she should potty. It will only teach your puppy to potty behind the couch or in a place where you can't find it.
