CRATE TRAINING POTTY SCHEDULE

Your crate training potty schedule is very important if you want to successfully crate train your puppy. Crate training is one of the best ways to successfully housebreak your puppy. This method can be broken down into 3 simple steps.

Step 1  Cue Word "Potty"

When your pup wakes up, don't hesitate, immediately rush him out to his designated potty area. It's very important to take him to the same spot every time. The scent from where he has been before will help trigger the urge to do his business. Don't move around, this will only distract him. Keep silent, don't say anything until he poops or pees. As soon as he begins to poop or pee say his cue word "potty" once, don't repeat the word. Stay there until he does #1 and #2. If he doesn't, put him back in the crate for 10 to 15 minutes and repeat the process. If he doesn't do both, he will when you bring him back inside.

Step 2  Watch for signs

When the little fellow has completed step 1 he has earned a little free time in a small area. Don't give him free reign of the house. It's best to keep him in a small room. During this time you must watch him continuously. As soon as you turn your back you know what will happen. He'll have an accident. If you notice him sniffing around or squatting, make a loud noise to startle him and quickly pick him up and rush out to his potty site.

Step 3  Stay positive

Accidents are going to happen. Your little puppy has a lot to learn, so don't get upset when accidents occur. Positive reinforcement is very important. When your puppy does the right thing praise him. Never punish your puppy for accidents. He isn't being bad, he just has to learn, and the more diligent you are about his crate training potty schedule, the faster he will learn.
